Welcome back to our Curated & Crafted series! If you’ve been following along on our home renovation journey here in Calhoun, Georgia, you know this project has been a labor of love for the Surratt family.

Originally, my husband Jason and I were planning to build from the ground up with our two daughters, Caroline and Charlotte. But as small-town word-of-mouth would have it, a home we’d quietly admired for years was suddenly coming on the market. Within days, we were under contract. As soon as we closed, the real work began: every single inch of the house was transformed, from new flooring, custom cabinetry, and countertops down to the last light fixture.

With Jason taking on the role of contractor on top of his demanding job, and me stepping into the designer seat (with continuous backup from my best friend, the talented Asheley York out of Tuscaloosa), we brought this place back to life. We poured ourselves into mixing high-end pieces and trade discounts with savvy Facebook Marketplace finds.

Today, I’m thrilled to take you upstairs and reveal two of my absolute favorite spaces in the house, Caroline and Charlotte’s bedrooms.

When we first started mapping out the floor plan, watching the girls negotiate who got which upstairs room was entertainment in itself.

Caroline’s Room: A Refined Equestrian Retreat

Caroline (15) ultimately staked her claim on the bedroom featuring unique architectural angles and its own private en suite bath. Because she’s been riding horses since she was little, we used her passion to guide the design without letting it feel overly theme-heavy. We chose a soothing dusty rose paint wash paired with a warm taupe accent wallpaper featuring brown quarter horses. To lean into the refined equestrian vibe, we hung an acrylic antler chandelier that instantly grounds the space, alongside unique sconces above her bedside table.

Her classic oak washed furniture comes from Pottery Barn Teen, layered with simple Eastern Accents bedding.

Love is truly in the details, though! We color-washed her desk and bathroom vanity in the same dusty rose paint tone, then styled them with brass horse knobs on the desk and delicate horse-bit pulls on the vanity. The result is a warm, inviting sanctuary that feels deeply personal to Caroline, and one that will gracefully grow with her through her high school years.

Charlotte’s Room: Lavender, Bows & Vintage Charm

Across the hall, Charlotte’s (11) room is totally different. Her design story was sparked by her love of LoveShackFancy, soft lavender hues, and bow motifs. We anchored the space with a dreamy white canopy bed and matching furnishings from Pottery Barn Teen, again layered in pillowy Eastern Accents bedding.

The crown jewel of Charlotte’s space is her floral lavender chandelier, but my personal favorite touch sits right above her headboard, a custom white oversized bow, framed on either side by antique crystal sconces I snagged from the antique markets in Paris. Like her sister’s room, we color-washed Charlotte’s desk and vanity in a matching lavender tone and outfitted both with adorable bow knobs. It’s sweet, tailored, and full of vintage charm.

Designing these rooms with my girls was such a joy, but seeing the girls fall in love with their new spaces was the ultimate reward. Caroline and Charlotte’s bedrooms are true reflections of who they are in this season of life, combining custom details with pieces built to last.

Stay tuned for our next update as we continue sharing more of our transformed Calhoun home! It’s been so much fun sharing this journey with you.
