Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? White Label Studio has several team members and clients that have been personally impacted by breast cancer. Mollie Surratt, WLS Co-founder, fought alongside her mother, Lori Allen, during her battle with breast cancer. Our client, Emily Finkell, also battled breast cancer while juggling a career and parenting two small children. Carpet One Floor & Home, a brand we are proud to provide influencer marketing for, donates sales from their Welcome Mats to Breast Cancer Research. We feel it is important to spotlight these stories and help raise awareness for this terrible disease. We also want to encourage women and men to educate themselves on how you can be proactive in protecting yourself, and how to support those around you who may be in their own battle with breast cancer.

Our co-founder, Mollie Surratt, has seen firsthand how breast cancer can impact the entire family. Her mother, Lori Allen, is best known as TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta star and owner of Bridals by Lori, but she is also a breast cancer survivor. Lori was diagnosed in 2012 with ductal carcinoma, which is fairly common, and a more vicious linear-growing carcinoma in her right breast. There were also atypical cells in her left breast. After the initial shock, she explored her options, eventually deciding to have a bilateral mastectomy after an initial lumpectomy left atypical cells in her left breast. Thankfully, this operation removed the atypical cells and Lori is in remission to this day. She knows God was in control and guiding her through the entire process. She also is a huge advocate of early detection and routine mammograms because this is what helped with her early diagnosis. Lori shares more of her breast cancer battle and the perspective it gave her on enjoying life in her book, Say Yes to What’s Next: How to Age with Elegance and Class While Never Losing Your Beauty and Sass! White Label Studio was honored to play a part in promoting this amazing book. We also continue to act as Lori’s talent agent, helping book speaking events where she shares her breast cancer journey and encourages women to get routine mammograms.

Our client, Emily Morrow Finkell, is also a breast cancer survivor. Emily, the CEO of Emily Morrow Home, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 35. A single mother of two at the time, Emily balanced a corporate career while caring for her young children, and herself, during her demanding and draining treatments. This experience led her to start the Kiker Morrow Finkell Foundation for Cancer Care. The nonprofit embodies the heart and purpose behind Emily Morrow Home and is funded by a portion of the profits from every sale of her beautiful flooring. Proceeds support others battling cancer in their time of need, whether it’s receiving a makeover in the midst of chemotherapy to inspire confidence or helping a mother provide Christmas gifts for her family as Emily’s mother did for her. Emily is more than a client, she is truly family, and we are in awe of the strength and grace she displays every day. She uses her platform to share her journey while supporting and educating others.

We are also so proud to partner with clients like Carpet One Floor & Home with their Welcome Mats influencer campaign. Through the sales of exclusively designed pink ribbon welcome mats, Carpet One Floor & Home supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF) in its mission to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research. By donating 25% of the purchase price of every mat sold, so far, their Welcome A Cure initiative has raised nearly 1 million dollars for a variety of breast cancer research charities and has funded nearly 10,000 hours of life-saving research through the BCRF. White Label Studio has partnered with Carpet One Floors & Home for several years on their Welcome Mat Influencer Campaign that raises awareness for these mats and breast cancer research by having influencers share the Welcome Mats on their social platforms. We love the heart behind this campaign and the mats are absolutely stunning!

As a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, we celebrate with breast cancer survivors, support those in the midst of their battle, and pray for life-saving research and medical advancements. We also encourage routine screening to detect any signs of breast cancer early. When caught early, the average relative survival rate for women diagnosed with breast cancer is 91%. The best way to protect yourself is by getting yearly mammograms if you are between the ages of 45 to 55 and every other year (or yearly) for women over 55. If you have a family history of breast cancer, mammograms are recommended starting at age 30. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you have any concerns and make time for yearly check-ups. As business owners, wives, and mothers, we understand that life can get crazy, but the greatest thing you can do for those you love is taking care of yourself. October is the ideal time to perform a self-breast exam and finally schedule the mammogram you’ve been putting off. Your life may depend on it!
